- End Colonial Status: Challenge the unincorporated status of the Virgin Islands under Congress’s plenary power.
- New Political Status: Advocate for a binding, internationally recognized self-determination process—statehood, free association, or independence.
- Congressional Transparency: Require Congress to publish—in advance—the specific resources, rights, and commitments under each option (parity in programs under statehood; Compact terms and funding under free association; transitional assistance and bilateral arrangements under independence).
- Empower the People: Guarantee that Virgin Islanders—not Congress—determine their civil and political future.
Policy Statement:
The people of the Virgin Islands have lived for over a century under Congress’s plenary power, a colonial doctrine that allows the U.S. government to govern us as it sees fit, without our consent. This “unincorporated” status is a modern form of colonialism, and it is the primary reason we are denied fundamental democratic rights. It is not our destiny to be a perpetual territory; it is our right to be the authors of our own future.
My most critical mission as your delegate is to end this colonial status and secure a new political status defined by self-determination. I will advocate for a binding, internationally recognized process where every Virgin Islander has a voice in choosing our future: statehood, free association, or independence. Furthermore, I will demand that Congress be transparent, providing a clear outline of the resources, rights, and commitments under each option before the vote takes place. Our future must be chosen by us—not dictated by others.
