Crime Prevention & Public Safety

  • Federal Partnership: Demand U.S. accountability in preventing crime, especially illegal firearm importation, through intelligence sharing and enforcement at ports of entry.
  • Community-Based Solutions: Fund youth engagement, violence prevention, and mentorship programs.
  • Breaking Cycles: Expand rehabilitation, education, and workforce opportunities to reduce recidivism.

Policy Statement:
Public safety is the foundation of a healthy community, but our islands have been plagued by a cycle of violence fueled by external forces. Illegal firearm importation is a primary driver of crime, and it is a federal responsibility to secure our borders and ports of entry. We must hold the U.S. government accountable for its role in preventing the flow of illegal weapons into our community.
My approach to crime prevention is a dual one: addressing the source of the problem and empowering our communities. We will demand a true partnership with federal agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and enforcement. Simultaneously, we must invest in our young people by funding robust, community-based programs that offer mentorship, education, and safe spaces. We will also work to break the cycles of crime by expanding rehabilitation, education, and workforce opportunities for those who have been incarcerated. A safer Virgin Islands is a more prosperous and hopeful one.
